NorsepowerAutomation Engineer (senior / junior)

Norsepower offers Rotor Sail Systems for reducing the environmental impact of shipping and is looking for a motivated Automation Engineer!

As an Automation Engineer, you will be part of the Automation and Electric team and your main responsibilities will be related to software and automation system development and on-site commissioning. Main tasks are related to developing the Rotor Sail system (product development / R&D), supporting delivery projects.

As a part of a multidisciplinary team, you have a great possibility to widen your expertise in the fields of automation, electrical, software and marine engineering - and of course you will learn the secrets of Magnus effect by seeing the aerodynamic equations turning in to software.

To succeed in this position, we expect you to have a background in automation engineering and solid programming skills. Besides this, you should have some basic electrical knowledge. You are going to work in close collaboration with different stakeholders, so we hope you have good communication and collaboration skills. Because commissions take place at the shipyards willingness to travel is required. As an Automation engineer, you will have a wide variety of tasks and we hope you are always eager to learn new and develop your expertise. Above all, Norsepower values a hands-on attitude and drive to get the job done!

Norsepower’s Rotor Sail Solution is a mechanical sail that harnesses the wind to reduce the ship’s fuel consumption and emissions. It is the first commercially available auxiliary wind propulsion solution with a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower project services cover all phases from the case study preparation to the Rotor Sail Solution delivery. Each project is planned according to the client’s needs and preferences.

We require you to have:

  • Relevant educational background in automation engineering

  • Solid programming skills

  • Basic electrical knowledge

  • Willingness to travel (about 50 days per year)

  • Full working proficiency in English

We consider as an asset:

  • PLC or embedded system programming experience

  • Eye for software architecture

  • Field working experience with automation and electric systems

  • Experience from IEC-61131-3: Structured text

  • Experience from C/C++ programming

  • Understanding of software development best practices

  • Test automation experience

  • Experience from implementing and designing AI and machine learning algorithms

  • Signal processing know-how

  • Experience from vibration analysis and condition monitoring

  • Interest in wind and aerodynamics
