ERA is a Silicon Valley based startup company with a passionate vision for a decentralized Internet (TechCrunch, NBC, CoinDesk). Our main product is the distributed database GUN which elegantly solves the universal problem of real-time data synchronization and conflict resolution between different storages: RAM, browser cache, filesystem, servers, peers, and so on. We deal with global challenges, which means that everything we do has a potential impact on a remarkable scale.

We are now looking for a Jr. Software Developer to work on Iris, a decentralized social media application. Iris is built on GUN, storing everything on its users’ devices that communicate directly with each other – no corporate gatekeepers needed. Your role at ERA can be adjusted according to your interests and skill level, which makes this a great learning opportunity, especially if you value the pros of working with a smaller team and being given more responsibility. Your tasks might consist of frontend development (AngularJS), test automation (Selenium), Iris library development (Node.js, browser) or even a deep dive into computer science fundamentals with GUN development.

The person we are looking for is enthusiastic about programming and the idea of distributed platforms and decentralization. We value analytical problem-solving skills, independent thinking, and the ability and willingness to communicate one’s own vision and get things done. You’ll get to join a team of five, out of which two work in Helsinki and three in California, USA. The culture you’ll dive into is very informal, free, and autonomous. Even though we wish that the team members spend time working together, remote work is also possible to some extent.

Requirements for the applicant:

  • Independent programming skills in JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Experience with some JavaScript web framework
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt and learn new things fast
  • Fluent skills in both Finnish and English

What is seen as an advantage:

  • Skills especially in AngularJS and Node.js
  • Experience with test automation (for example Selenium)
  • Good grasp on computer science fundamentals
  • Previous programming experience from work or side projects
