Norsepower, which offers solutions for reducing the environmental impact of shipping, is looking for an Automation Designer in Helsinki to take part in their small four person team. Norsepower’s Rotor Sail Solution harnesses the wind to maximise ship fuel efficiency and it is the first commercially available auxiliary wind propulsion solution with a proven track record of successful operation since 2014. Norsepower project services cover all phases from the case study preparation to the Rotor Sail Solution delivery. Each project is planned according to the client’s needs and preferences. In this role, you will work as part of Norsepower’s R&D unit, where you and your team will be responsible for the life cycle of Norsepower’s clients’ rotor sail systems. The customers are mostly international. So traveling is a natural part of the job which allows you to gather the best practices from the world. There are usually many projects to be worked on at the same time, which enable you to get to know different projects and develop your skills in automation and programming.

As a part of the R&D unit, your main tasks will be:

Electrical design – Norsepowers project services cover all phases from preparations to solution delivery, and so, you will take part in electrical and automation design tasks. These include drawing electrical diagrams, searching and specifying various components. We assume you are accurate and know electrical diagram best practices.

Control system development – Part of the R&D you will develop Norsepower’s control system by using Simulink and PLC programming tools. We hope you have eagerness and motivation to improve your skills.

Commissioning and delivery – You will take part in the solution delivery that includes everything from assembly, testing and installations to installation supervision and commissioning. which are located at customers’ shipyards and ships around the world. In terms of commissioning, we expect you to have an enthusiastic hands-on attitude.

Working in Norsepower is challenging but rewarding and you are going to be part of the solution for reducing carbon emission. we don’t expect you to know everything right away. Attitude and motivation is the key to success!

We require you to have :

  • Relevant technical study background (a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree )
  • Some work experience in the field of electrical engineering
  • Programming skills
  • Experience with EPLAN or Simulink
  • Fluency in English

We consider as an asset:

  • Experience in modeling and control engineering
  • Experience from the marine sector
  • Basic knowledge of PLC
