Varex Imaging is a global technology leader in X-ray imaging, developing advanced solutions used in medical diagnostics, industrial inspection, and security systems. With a strong international presence and high-tech product portfolio, we’re pushing the boundaries of what's possible in imaging.

We are now looking for a Lead Electronics Engineer to join our growing team in Espoo.

Your role with us

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work hands-on with the development of our next-generation X-ray detectors — from initial ideas all the way to production. You’ll be designing and validating the electronics in our products, making key decisions about architecture, schematics, and integration with firmware, software and mechanics. You will also closely interact with our image quality and systems teams to ensure top-notch performance and reliability.

Your work will touch on the entire development lifecycle, including:

  • translating product requirements into technical solutions
  • designing electronics architecture and boards
  • building and testing prototypes
  • ensuring compliance with medical standards
  • supporting manufacturing and long-term reliability

You’ll be part of a small but experienced electronics team, collaborating daily with firmware, embedded software, mechanics, and manufacturing experts — both locally and with global colleagues.

In addition to technical work, we’ll count on you to provide direction for other colleagues, support continuous improvement, and help shape our design practices and ways of working. If you’re interested, there is also an opportunity to take on a formal line manager role for the electronics team.

What makes you a great fit?

You have a strong background in electronics design and are confident working with complex systems from concept to production. You understand the importance of manufacturability and reliability, and you’re used to working in environments where requirements evolve over time. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively with both local colleagues and international teams. You’re comfortable sharing your expertise to support others and contributing to a structured, professional way of working.

We require you to have:

  • 5+ years of experience in electronics design, ideally from medical devices or high-tech products
  • Experience with fast digital electronics — e.g., SoCs(like AMD/Xilinx Ultrascale) Gbit/s data buses, DDR4 interfaces
  • Practical experience with tools like Altium Designer and LTSpice
  • Understanding of low-noise analog circuits, high-voltage generation, and power management
  • Familiarity with industrial and medical standards (such as IEC 60601 and IEC 61010), EMC testing, and DfM principles
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Professional working proficiency in English, Finnish language skills seen as a plus

We consider as an asset:

  • Background in X-ray systems or medical imaging technologies
  • Familiarity with virtual test setups and long lifecycle component selection
  • Good mentoring, communication and presentation skills in technical environments
  • Ability to navigate evolving requirements and find practical solutions

We can offer you:

  • A unique opportunity to grow as an expert in the X-ray imaging field with a team in which every person makes a difference
  • Broad technical ownership: contribute across the full development cycle, from architecture and design to testing and production
  • A small, agile team with a low-hierarchy culture where your ideas matter and decisions are made efficiently
  • Optional leadership opportunity: if you're interested in people leadership, the role can be shaped to include formal line manager responsibilities
  • An international working environment and global collaboration opportunities
  • Individual training and development opportunities
  • A compensation package including participation in our Bonus Plan

Practicalities:

This is a full-time and permanent position and you will be employed directly to Varex Imaging. The ideal start time in the role is as soon as possible. The role will be located in Espoo, and we hope you are able to work at the office at least three days per week as part of a hybrid model. The salary in this position ranges between 6500-8500 €/month depending on the level of your experience, and will be negotiated individually.
