Test Development Engineer

Biomensio is an innovative biotechnology company revolutionizing bioanalytics through its point-of-need diagnostics platform.  The initial application areas include on-site detection of drug abuse in saliva, as well as testing food and milk safety. The diagnostics platform consists of a fully digital handheld reader, multi-analyte sensors integrated into fluidic cartridge, and a cloud-based analytics service. Biomensio employs 9 professionals and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years as the company matures and moves from the R&D stage towards commercialisation. Biomensio, founded in 2016, is headquartered in Tampere Finland with an office also in Otaniemi, Espoo.

Biomensio is looking for a systematic Test Development Engineer to work in a recently established sensor development team in Espoo. In this hands-on position, you will develop tools, routines, quality protocols and test systems for the sensors and related software. In other words, you are responsible for setting and developing the softwares, hardwares and processes utilized in testing to produce accurate data concerning the quality of the product. You will work closely with Biomensio’s sensor and process development engineers and also with several partners. Overall, the sensor development team is responsible for the development of a mass sensitive transducer chips based on patented Solidly Mounted Resonator (SMR) technology combined with Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC).  

You will succeed in this position if you like working independently and proactively in close contact with the multidisciplinary team. You enjoy working in an ever-changing startup environment where your role is not set to stone. You are excited about contributing to the growth of the company and ready to commit to the shared goals for the long term. You might be in the beginning of your career or already a more experienced talent as long as you are able to learn quickly and have understanding of signal processing, sensors and test systems. Previous work experience in developing test systems for sensor production is highly valued. You will collaborate tightly with suppliers, partners and other team members, e.g. chemists and engineers. Therefore, your ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds is equally important as well as your ability to learn basics of biotechnology. Your role includes visiting Tampere headquarters from time to time. Depending on your skills and motivation your role can also include other responsibilities, such as sensor design and characterization. We are looking for:

  • Technical studies from relevant field (e.g. physics, automation, bioinformation technology, electronics or mechanical engineering)
  • Understanding of signal processing and sensor systems
  • Previous work experience in developing test systems for sensor production
  • Programming skills in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Python, Labview, VBA macros
  • Hands on lab skills, e.g. setting up measurement systems (mechanics/electronics/s)
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and willingness to explore new things in a multidisciplinary team
  • Fluent skills in English

We consider as an advantage:

  • Experience in working with microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and know-how of MEMS test systems
  • Know-how in FBAR/SMR, ASIC and/or microfluidic technologies
  • Industrial experience
  • Previous experience in working within ISO 13485 or ISO 9001 environment
  • Understanding a bit of spoken Finnish
