Data Scientist/Data Engineer

Published on 08.11.2018

Silvere combines forestry with cutting-edge technology and precise data analytics to make forest management smarter. Forestry value chain plays a significant role in the global economy and will have an important role in the fight against climate change and ensuring a high level of biodiversity. Yet over the last 100 years, decision-making in forestry has been largely based on rough estimates and averages. Silvere changes the game by bringing unforeseen practices to the field of forestry. By utilizing the latest technologies including robotics, 3D imaging, big data and advanced analytics, Silvere has redefined forest management and made it possible to analyze and plan the forest at the accuracy of an individual tree as well as automate every aspect of managing the forests.

This is a unique opportunity to join an industry changing team of highly talented people. We are now looking for a Data Scientist/Data Engineer to join our development team that works with single tree modeling, tree species recognition, single tree growth modeling, geodetic data, forest management plan optimization and development of 3D data measurement systems. As a Data Scientist/Data Engineer you will have your own area of responsibility where you will focus on independently but you will also collaborate closely with other members of the team. Possible responsibilities could include for example the following:

  • Inspecting, debugging and fixing problems in our data processing environment
  • Developing, optimizing and integrating data processing algorithms to production environment
  • Integrating sensors to our data collection systems
  • Mathematical modeling of geometrical features of trees
  • Analyzing and producing reports of forest inventory data
  • Modeling the optimal forestry management plan in order to maximize the economic return of the forest within defined boundary conditions

We expect you to have relevant study background from a university, (e.g. computer science or applied mathematics), excellent problem solving skills, experience with Linux, proficiency in Python and at least basic level skills in C and C++. We value previous experience in data analytics, software engineering, image/signal processing, computer vision, machine learning and embedded systems.  However success in studies can compensate for past work experience. The working language will be English but skills in Finnish are considered as an advantage.

This position offers you an exceptional opportunity to be a part of a team changing the forestry industry. You will get to work with like-minded and talented colleagues and learn from the best technology experts. You get to put all your knowledge in use and challenge yourself with interesting tasks while working with the newest technologies and inventions in the area of robotics, 3D imaging, big data and advanced analytics. In addition, you will be able to concentrate solely on work, when we will make sure that you will have all the needed tools and facilities available in our modern premises in Helsinki city center as well as a competitive incentive scheme.

Got interested? Please send your CV, application letter and latest university transcripts (in case of students and recent graduates) to: https://apply.atalent.fi/silvere-data-scientist-data-engineer-11-2018 as soon as possible, but no later than 20th of November, 2018.
