Senior Mechanical Engineer

Published on 27.05.2019

SYNOSTE is a Finnish start-up company founded in 2012. The journey began in 2007 at the classrooms of the current Aalto University where three young engineering students started to research smart materials, wireless technology, micro mechanics, and their possibilities in treatment of bone deformities. The first business plan of SYNOSTE was written in 2012. Today, seven years later and enabled by the raised funding of 14 million euros so far, the vision of that time is strongly turning into reality: first patients have been operated and clinical studies are ongoing, the market clearance procedures have been started as well as new product development projects are about to be kicked off. Most of all,  all current 14 like-minded and easy-going professionals gather at the Espoo office in the mornings and work towards the common goal – patient-friendly next generation implants which will change a patient´s life for better!

Due to solid progress of the company’s product development and ambitious future objectives, SYNOSTE is now looking to strengthen its existing three-person mechanical engineering team with a talented and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer. Mechanical design of complex medical implants and related instruments is in the core of this role where you will be handed major responsibility over the product´s design. Your role as part of this project team is crucial but in case you have potential and interest, we gladly also offer you managerial responsibility within the mechanical engineering team. Over time we expect your role to evolve to be the technical lead for the mechanical engineering contributing to the future direction of SYNOSTE´s product development.

In addition to performing design work yourself and coordinating other designers´ tasks as a project manager, the role consists of managing subcontracted design work with top-tier engineering offices and suppliers around the world, including testing prototypes. Moreover, you will provide technical information to product management, sales, manufacturing and purchasing in order to enable smooth introduction of new or improved designs.

Considering the responsible and demanding character of this position, we expect you to be a technically advanced professional, both from a theoretical and practical perspective. However, we are prepared to provide you with the opportunity for additional training in order to ensure your professional growth. Still, in order to succeed as SYNOSTE´s Senior Mechanical Engineer, you are required to already possess substantial know-how in precision mechanics design and new product development.

As a trade, we at SYNOSTE offer you a place among laid-back but full-on professionals in a low-hierarchy work environment.  We are flexible and let you work in a way you get things best done. When you have suggestions in order to develop things further, we will listen. Moreover, if you are willing and passionate to harness your professional abilities to help others and change their lives, why not change your own life as well and join us? We dare to claim you don´t often get a chance to join in and leave your mark in the development of something as unprecedented and progressed as this!

  • Freedom to arrange your own way of working without hindering bureaucracy
  • A working environment to which you can genuinely leave your mark on
