Hypermemo Oy was established in 2009 and had a new start in 2014 after the invention of the fundamentally novel CO2 laser. Their innovation is backed by 20+ years of R&D in the field of high-power lasers. In 2018 the company received a Horizon 2020 SME Instrument grant, stepping into the SME Champions League, according to the European Commission’s terminology. Finally, in 2020 Hypermemo raised the highly competitive EIC Accelerator funding, closing the seed round with two private venture funds.

Hypermemo is now looking for a self-oriented and development driven Automation Engineer to join their team in Joensuu. The team consists of 15 tech enthusiasts with broad experience in R&D — from mechanics to electrical. To prepare the product for market launch, they are looking for new team members to carry out R&D activities in automation and embedded software design. We expect that you have gained some experience in the field but still be eager to learn more and develop yourself. Attitude is key.

Hypermemo has made a breakthrough in laser-based glass processing. Their innovation GLASER™ transforms the traditional industrial process, as cutting, edge processing, marking, and engraving are now consecutively performed with a single all-in-one laser tool on a single table. Hypermemo makes glass processing more efficient, sustainable, and safer. Funding rounds are done and now it is time to grow. This is a great opportunity to get part of this revolutionary edge-cutting journey.

Your main tasks will be:

  • R&D – Your primary task is to design motion and control algorithms for the laser-based glass-processing machinery. It includes for example design software sub-modules for the automation system. Our team uses Beckhoff for automation design.
  • Testing activities and working with production – Our piloting and production facilities are based in Joensuu and you will play an active role in testing the final product. You will also communicate with production and make sure they have what they need for assembly and manufacturing.
  • Commissioning – Because we are developing something new, you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of the deployment process. After launching your role will also consist of commissioning activities to make sure our customers get the final products up and running. Once the product is ready to hit the market you’ll get the opportunity to gain international work experience by traveling abroad.

We’re hoping you have:

  • A Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree from a relevant field of study (e.g. Electronics, Industrial Automation, or related technical field)
  • Experience in automation design (PLC) using relevant tools such as Beckhoff, Siemens, or similar
  • Fluency in English

Here are some skills we also find useful, but not required:

  • Experience in embedded systems and electronics design
  • Programming skills (.Net, Python, c#)
  • Experience with CO2 lasers gained from the laser marking or metal processing
